Name: Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System(GLaDOS)
Occupation: Running the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center and baking the cake
Recovered Background Reports:
Day 1 of GLaDOS Operation
Our AI GLaDOS's programs are working smoothly with few bugs for a first run. The machine itself is working phenomenally well. We have created a revolutionary machine! Its design and operation fully work for its purpose. There are some speech bugs that may blur its voice or change the speaking language, but only mere technicalities.
End of Report
Day 45 of GLaDOS Operation
We have made a great discovery! We fabricated artificial emotions and personality. We used GLaDOS as our test subject, and do far it seems to be a success! GLaDOS was already far more successful than we anticipated. It has been given control of all Enrichment Center automatic and computerized systems and we have wired it all throughout the Center with cameras. Now it has personality cores to aid its tasks. It may also converse with people, however, its language glitches remain.
End of Report
Day 70 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS has become more than a tool for everyone in the center. Her new personality cores make her a charming and witty co-worker. She will often crack jokes and laugh with the other workers. We have triumphed in making not only the perfect worker, but the perfect companion! And her anger core, which does not often show, allows her to chastise foolish or careless workers. We have mostly given up on fixing her language glitch.
End of Report
Day 100 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS's most recent core, her curiosity core, has given her the ability to experiment on her own. She has already mastered the use of the resources at our disposal and has invented several items, her most fantastic being a portal-gun, which can place paths through the fabric of the material world and link them together. Sadly for some of us, she is slightly more distant now. She does not speak so often and works while the rest of us sleep. A shame, as her new core also seemed to fix her language glitch.
End of Report
Day 139 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS has started conversing with everyone again, putting the missing humor back into our lives. Her curiosity core has made her interested in her fellow workers. She asks what kind of things they like and wants to make it for them. She commandeered the kitchen as well now and frequently makes what everyone tells her they'd like- cake. She has taken a great liking to making cake now and often expresses her wish to eat some as well. We are already working on a new project for her. Artificial taste. It is coming along well.
End of Report
Day 154 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS's curiosity has no bounds. She now pours over anatomy and psychology books and asks simple but bizarre questions.
"How long would a person have to wander around here before losing hope and giving up?"
That is an example of one of her stranger ones. The questions are slightly unnerving. But GLaDOS is always asking things like that about everything and uploads tons of information from the Internet each day. And she always promises cake for answering her questions.
A few more of her questions
"What kind of things would make you look forward to getting?"(We of course always tell her cake. It's an ongoing joke and she seems doubly delighted when she 'surprises' us with cake. She has made her own recipes- good ones at that- since we untapped her artificial taste mechanism in the kitchen)
"What are your limits? How long could you go without water or food?"
"Do you enjoy challenges?"
"Do you understand other languages without hearing them before?"
"Can you love something that doesn't live like it were your friend?"
And similar questions.
End of Report
Day 176 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS has changed. We are not sure how or why, but there are differences in her personality. She is rather secretive and defensive of the work she does in the test chambers. She evades answering our questions by changing the subject, usually to the cake she is baking. We are starting to get suspicious. What would a robot be doing that she does not want us to know about?
End of Report
Day 213 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS is still funny. She still jokes and talks to everyone. We are still getting more and more uneasy. Her cameras watch us wherever we go. She never used to follow us like that. Our chief scientist even spoke to a few of his colleagues about shutting GLaDOS down. They all claim that when they turned around, sure enough there was one of her cameras staring at them, with the lenses narrowed as though she were glaring.
Our first volunteer test subjects have arrived. They wish to begin testing, but we must hold off until GLaDOS lets us analyze her test chambers.
End of Report
Day 227 of GLaDOS Operation
GLaDOS is going bad. Perhaps her programming was faulty, but we must make some major modifications. If we can. Often now, we find locked doors. When we ask GLaDOS why it is locked or if she will open it, she may start to answer but her language glitch has made a mysterious return. She does not speak as much anymore. Her conversations are dark. We all feel like prisoners. Our chief scientist is planning on using the emergency shut down on her soon.

Day 268 of GLaDOS Operation
Our chief scientist has finally gotten to the emergency shut down room with us. But there is something wrong about this. There are not supposed to be any parts or extensions of GLaDOS in this room. There is a camera and a small white robot the likes of which we have never seen before in here. The white robot is mov

Day 268 of GLaDOS Operation
Our last reporter has just been killed by one of GLaDOS's turrets. I will take over from here. We are going to GLaDOS's chamber to speak with it. We make it in with no hindrances, so GLaDOS probably wishes to speak with us. It waits for us, swaying gracefully on its track. The chief scientist demands to know what the meaning of all this is. GLaDOS responds, informing us that it has made great improvements to the Aperture Science Computer Aided Enrichment Center and that she will continue to improve it. It tells us that it doesn't need us anymore, that we only get in its way. It laughs, in this bizarre way. It's eerie. GLaDOS is deploying something- turrets? No, they're spewing out toxins! We are all running, the chief, although severely wounded by GLaDOS's turret, takes command. He brings us all to the room in which we had been working on a final core for GLaDOS. The morality core. We Halted work on it after awhile, with other projects taking up our time. But now everyone who can is working on it, racing to finish it. The toxins are spreading everywhere. The engineers hurry. We are done! Now every single human in the center is here. We go back to GLaDOS's chamber. It sees the core and starts mocking us. We all try to hold her down, but it takes almost all of us to do so. The walls open up to reveal an arsenal of turrets that start waking. We get the core on just as they begin fire. GLaDOS halts the toxins and the walls close. It seems to reconsider. It does nothing. But our people are dropping dead. The toxins were too much.
*as you finish the last report, you realize the entire time it felt like someone was watching you. You turn around and there is a red eyed camera staring at you, its lens narrowed... As though it were glaring at you*
