Just throwing this out there: Carrying around ten little books in a backpack doesn't even come close to killing my back. I have to carry around a backpack that weighs about five times as much every day at school, so just carrying ten books is a relief.

Besides, if only carrying that much weight would kill someone's back, they clearly need exercise.
